This has been one of my most popular Youtube videos with over 12,000 views. It’s been shared extensively around Italy and the UK! To say this place is gorgeous is to understate it.
On our last day in Marsala we left early in the morning for a beach day in the small seaside town of San Vito Lo Capo. The drive there was beautiful, but it was busy and going into the center was quite stressful with parking extremely difficult to find. Despite buying a parking pass from an ‘official attendant’ and parking where we were told, I had gotten a $65 parking ticket in the mail six months later which was automatically charged to my credit card by Budget Rentals. (So, save your parking receipt as proof of payment, but who would for six months?)
It was an extreme chore finding parking down by the beachfront, even difficult by Italian standards but once we were planted in the sand all stress melted away in the sun and replaced with pure bliss.
San Vito is placed on a sheltered bay overlooked by the dramatic Mount Monaco, its waters bath tub warm, crystal clear blue and clean sandy bottom. The beach is one of the most beautiful we had ever been lucky enough to visit, it rivals any of the Caribbean or Mexican beaches that we’ve vacationed at.
You can walk out a long way, not a rock in sight, a small school of fish would follow me as I waded through the tepid waters.
Its home to many small shops, vendors, cafes and eateries that cater to the beach-going market. It has a great vibe and reminded me of the Greek villages of Santorini or Mykonos that we have visited in the past.
It was hot but perfect weather for a beach day and we completely enjoyed ourselves swimming, lounging and picnicking on the sandy shores watching the Italians living La Dolce Vita.
Oh, how I wish I were here right now as I look outside at more snow coming down here in Calgary! I hope we make it back one day as we didn’t get to explore the town and more of the offerings in this area, we’d highly recommend putting this place on your itinerary if you ever make it to Sicily. Best beach day ever! Heres the photo gallery to San Vito Lo Capo.
